Final Piece

This year was so much fun in our digital arts class. As a final we had to create an original piece of art, so I turned my friends and I into half sketches. We had out photography teacher take the photo then I played with it in Adobe Illustrator. Overall it was a fun piece to create

Pulp Cover 2

Here is my second Pulp cover. I used the same picture of my friend then a photo of Scarlet Johansson from the Iron Man 2 movie. I do  not claim ownership to the movie or the photo. I used the watercolor paper effect and then adjusted the contrast and tone. So now my buddy is just looking down pondering life, oblivious to the fact that someone is climbing through the window.

Art Start!

" The experimental test of whether this art is great or good, or minor or abysmal,is the effect in the effect it has on your own scene of the world and of yourself. Great art changes you." - Sister Wendy Beckett

Everybody has a different view of art. Some people like the Gothic style while others prefer abstract pieces. But whether your friend likes it or not is not important, it is whether you like it. Every piece of art that is considered "great" by art critics has had a personal effect of many people. Does the symmetry in Davinci's  "Mona Lisa" make you think of the golden ration that describes the "perfect" human?what she is mysteriously smiling about? Does Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel make you think of the heavens? Every one has a different taste in art, but yet some pieces are considered grater than others.  Maybe it is just about the effect it has on people when they see it. As Sister Wendy said "Great art changes you."

Pulp Cover 1

Here is one of my pulp covers I created. It was a difficult assignment because it was hard creating a concept.  In this cover the "damsel" is tied up by the menacing bad guy playing cards and then the "hero" is climbing through the window to save the day. It is a mix of original source material and some pics from google. The characters are distorted photos of my friends and I. The scary background was a  photo of an abandoned warehouse that I cropped and changed the brightness on. The table was another photo I changed the effects on along with the window I am climbing out of and the rope hanging from the ceiling was created using the clone tool from the rope around her hands that I photo-shopped from a picture online. This is only one of my covers, but this is the progress report so far.

Process of the model portrait, sketched idea, not final piece

this is just a sketched idea for the models in my portrait.

Weekly Post-March 27

So this week we were suppose to complete our Anachronistic portrait. My idea was to put a portrait of a model , then place it in a cave to make it look like a caveman drawing. I know exciting. Whoo :/......

Anyways I was unable to finish today for the due date because I missed two classes this week. Hopefully I will be able to complete it after my week long spring break that I am completely ready for.

Art Start

" Artist who seek perfection in everything are those that cannot attain it in anything." - Eugene Delacroix

I think it speaks on the issue of over-working yourself. If you try so hard to be perfect you will make some very big mistakes. It is better to be balanced in life than try to much and miss something important.

New Assignment

Our new assignment is inspired by the style of Steam Punk and Chaplin's Cell -phone , which are considered Anachronistic. The shortened version of the definition of  anachronistic given to us by our teacher is  an error in chronology , a person or thing that is chronology out of place, the state or condition of being chronologically out of place.

Here is an example: ( Chaplin's Cell-phone)

Here is a Steam Punk example:

this is one of the coolest pieces of steam punk art that I have seen. The octopus is not only chronologically out of place but also,... well an octopus can't walk on land nor do I believe it would be happy being held on a lesh and being pranced through town like a show dog, no matter how lovely it's 8 octopus legs might be. So overall I find this piece extremely funny and child-like.

Art Start

" All of us must eventually do what the matador does go out and face not only the bull, but the crowd. It does the matador little good, provides him little satisfaction to make beautiful passes alone in a moonlit pasture." - Chuck Jones

I believe that this is saying that yea we might be extraordinary people but we won't be fully happy with that until we express ourselves in a way to let the world know who we are. As humans we have a natural craving for others affection , but unsurprisingly there are humans that are extremely shy and timid that can't always reveal themselves in the manor they wish to. Although they sometimes find life happier when they are completely confident in themselves and are received as exactly who they are.

Fairy Tale

So here is my completed (sorta) fairy tale piece. We were instructed to create a fairy tale image based on Camille Rose Garcia. I used her style of characters to give Peter Pan a elfish look. I drew the whole thing using sharpies and pens.

Art Start- I left something behind

The clock strikes 12. You have to hurry before everything changes. What do you leave behind?

Well if I was in a story and I left something behind it would probably be leave my ring behind. My silver ring was a gift from my grandfather and it use to be some sort of cigar holder, I think. It would be lost to the evil witch and the brave prince would have to battle a cliche dragon and win it back as a token to my heart. then we would have a happily ever after.

Art Start- Week 3b

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~"Sometimes I am terrified of my heart*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*of it's constant hunger for whatever it is it wants.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~The way it stops and starts"*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
                                                               - Edgar Allen Poe
Sorta poetic I guess. If you think about it the heart is always asking for stuff " give me food" most would think that that is your stomach, but this Valentine's day my 'bae" is the food my friends and I will be eating. Anyways the heart is giving, but also very greedy. In a cliche way it is always in conflict with our brains. The cute guy everyone likes, but is extremely rude. But you still go all "fan-girl" over them.

This quote is self explanatory. As individuals we are constantly at war with the idea of the life we should have with the life we do have. The only way to try to merge the two is to be creative and use your imagination. Imagination can go a long way is brightening up the world in which we live.

Art Start- Week 4b

"Before Alice got to Wonderland she had to fall pretty hard a deep hole." This seems like a quote we would analyze in English class. It can be a metaphor for before you get to a great place you have to start from the bottom, or a dark place.

Art Start- week4

"If you want your children to be intelligent, read them valentines"- Albert Einstein
Fairy tales introduce children to a lot of different situations at an early age. They show magic and love and dreams, and a whole lot of hope. Children are creative and curious so giving them fairy tales can build on that and lots of people say that creativity is connected to intelligence.

MY CHEESY VALENTINES

So here are my completed valentines. they are cheesy but they are kinda cute I guess. I changed the color of the coke bottles in Photoshop, but the original coke picture is not mine. I created the Starbucks cup in illustrator and used Photoshop again to change the color. Happy Valentines everyone!

Art Start- Week 3c

" It's a world laughter, a world of tears. It's a world of hopes, it's a world fears. There's so much that we share, that it's time we're aware. It's a small world after all."- Disney park song.
I think this speaks on the way we view life. We all know the fortune-cookie, cliche, quotes on how there are good and bad things in life and how it all works out for the better. It also brings to attention how we all have been through similar events and have all shared the same feelings and I think that that is what it means when it says it's a small world after all and I think this does a good job of summing it all up.

Art Start- Week Three

" Love of
          Beauty is
 Taste

The Creation
         of Beauty is
Art"
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

So I decided to change how I type the quote. I'm not sure if I like it or not.
Anyways, I think this quote is straight forward. To "art" is to make something beautiful and being able to distinguish that which is beautiful is having taste.

Art Start- Week Two post 1

"Love all, Trust few, do wrong to none"- Shakespeare. Today's art start is a William Shakespeare quote. I interpret it as a warning to guard your heart. "Love all"- as humans that all make mistakes, we should love each other besides our mistakes. "Trust few"- the heart is sensitive and is easy broken so when you give a piece of it way make sure that you trust the person to not hurt you. "do wrong to none"- goes back to the fact that we all make mistakes and that it is ignorant to judge and act harshly to someone just because they mess or we disagree.

Sandman Final

Here is my completed sandman.I painted the original piece using acrylics and charcoal. Then scanned it into Photoshop. When I was in Photoshop I opened a new file and followed the steps from http://www.icanbecreative.com/how-to-create-realistic-sand-effect-in-photoshop.html which provided an easy tutorial to create a realistic sand effect. The sand is created using clouds, noise, and bas relief on two layers. I used the magnetic lasso and quick mask to separate part of my original piece ( the space section and sand) over onto the sand and placed it ( now a third layer) under the second layer to give it the blur and light effects. Then I used online pictures of animals and opened them in a new document and used the magnetic lasso and fill tool to create the deer silhouette. I was unaware on how to do a silhouette before this point and so I borrowed the bear and eagle silhouette from  online. It took a long time and quite a bit of confusion but I was finally able to create my idea of the sandman. The sandman is the master of dreams and my dream is to be an astronaut, cause space is cool. So voila!

Sandman in Process

So lately we have been working on a sandman cover. My piece is something I painted with acrylics then have edited in Photoshop. After editing it I added a few animal silhouettes. Unfortunately it is not letting me save it as a JPG at the moments so I can not attach the image.

Art Star- week 1B

The picture for this today's art star is a piece of graffiti art by Banksey that has "Follow Your Dreams" with a big red "Cancelled"  sign over it.
"Follow Your Dreams" is what adults and people tell young children but now a days the kids themselves tell themselves that they can't, and that society won't allow them to. Young adults are having a harder time finding a place in today's society where they can accomplish their dreams. Whether they put a limit on themselves or have outside forces, like controlling parents, it is hard to do what you want and to express yourself.
For example my best friend and I had a dream when we were little to grow up and start a detective agency (I know it childish.. but we really  like the show Psych). She is working towards meeting the requirements to go to the University of Florida because they have an outstanding Forensic Science department, but her mom wants her to get highlights, wear dresses and become a secretary. She is just one of the people I know that is having to changer her priorities to meet someone else and put her dreams on hold.

Art Start- Week one

" Dreaming after all, is a form of planning."- Gloria Steinem. In class we are starting a new daily project called '"ART START" where we will analyze a quote or picture, which I'm looking forward to. This quote to me puts into words the thought process of an artist. When I begin a project I am always unaware as to what I will do until I have time to reflect on it. Dreaming is a mental state in which our brains replay images we have seen and so for me dreaming can be a way to gather everything that inspires you to form a single idea. This helps me with my ideas.

Train

This weeks theme on Illustration Friday was "invention". I drew the train using pencils and sharpies then used Photoshop it transfer it onto aged paper that I had previously created.
